Insecurity: Service Chiefs To Brief Senate Today On Progress Report

News Investigators/ The Nigerian security chiefs will today brief the Senate on progress report on the handling of security challenges in the country.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Adetokunbo Abiru, gave the hint while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja

Sen. Abiru who briefing newsmen on why the interface between the committee and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso was postponed said the Senate had earlier summoned the service chiefs to appear before it to explain the worsening security situation in the country.

According to him, the planned interface with Mr. Cardoso by the senate was shifted to Friday, since Wednesday and Thursday had been slated for grilling of the service chiefs.

Mr. Cardoso was a guest of the House of Representatives on Tuesday where he alongside some key stakeholders in the economy held a session on the state of the Nigeria’s economy.

Sen Abiru said, “After waiting for close to two hours for the CBN governor on the planned interface, we have resolved to postpone it to Friday, by 9:00 a.m prompt.

”Postponement of the interface between our committee and the CBN governor arose from the fact that he, and other managers of the nation’s economy have been interfacing with our colleagues in the House of Representatives since morning without knowing when exactly the session will end.

“We would have fixed Wednesday or Thursday as new day for the interface but the senate as a whole, has fixed the two days for very critical and constructive engagement with the service chiefs .

“This made us to eventually settle for Friday for interface with the CBN governor.”

Earlier, the senate had over two hours of closed-door session, after which it considered a motion from Sen. Ahmad Lawan on the demise of Sen. Bukar Ibrahim, by observing a minute silence for the deceased.

The upper chamber raised a nine – man delegation for condolence visit to the Government of Yobe and family of the deceased.

The delegation would be led by Sen. Adamu Aliero ( PDP-Kebbi).(NAN)
