Defence Hqtrs Says No Foreigner Was Arrested, As It Clears Sambisa Forest –

By Ibrahim Imam – The Defence headquarters has denied reports that foreign fighters were arrested during its final battle to clear the Boko Haram insurgents’ stronghold in Sambisa forest.

Some media, especially online, had reported the arrest of a Frenchman purported to be a Boko Haram member.

But Director of Defence Information, Rabe Abubakar, in a statement Tuesday, said while foreigners were among the rank and file of the terrorist group, there was no arrest of any white man as reported in some media.

“We commend the efforts of our gallant troops on their final clearance of Boko Haram terrorists from Sambisa Forest.

“We will like to state clearly that though some none Nigerians were amongst the rank and file of the Boko Haram terrorists in d forest, but there was no arrest of any white man as reported by some online media,” the defence headquarters said in a statement.

The statement called for more vigilance among the members of the public, having earlier warned that some of the run-away insurgent members may be escaping to the cities.

“We advise all citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement as some terrorists on the run could easily mingle with them.

“We appreciate all Nigerians for your love, cooperation and support in making this operation a huge success.

It assured the public of “more update as event unfold will be provided to d general public.”
