News Investigators/ The Katsina State Government has promised to reward athletes who win medals at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta.
The state’s Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Aliyu Lawal-Shargalle, announced this in a statement on Friday when he visted the state’s contigent in Asaba.
He urged the athletes to be excellent ambassadors of the state.
The commissioner who donated N260,000 to the athletes as a morale booster, said that Gov. Dikko Radda, was is happy with their achievements so far.
While applauding tge athletes and authorities for the Weldon job, he restated the administration’s resolve to continue nurturing fresh talents from the grassroots for them to achieve their dreams.
Mr Lawal-Shargalle reiterated the the government’s commitment to continue to support athletes by participating in all national sports events as part of the government’s strategy for transforming sporting activities in the state.
The commissioner congratulated Aliyu Bara’u for winning gold medal in golf’s best gross game, and urged other athletes to emulate him in the sports they compete.
The NYG introduced in 2013 by the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, serves as Nigeria’s premier grassroots sports talent discovery platform.
The multi-sport competition is designed to identify, groom, and nurture young athletes under the age of 15, with the ultimate goal of building a strong pipeline of talents for national and international sporting events.
