Kogi Declares War On Illicit Drugs With 26-Member Committee

News Investigators/ The Kogi  Government has taken a significant step in tackling the rising menace of illicit drugs in the state by reconstituting a 26-member Drug Control Committee.

The committee was inaugurated on Friday in Lokoja, by the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Folashade Ayoade on behalf of Gov. Ahmed Ododo,

According to Mrs Ayoade, it is in line with the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) 2015-2019.

The SGS said the committee’s purpose is to drastically reduce the sale, distribution, and use of illicit drugs in Kogi.

She emphasised Ododo’s administration’s determination to ensure the state is not a safe haven for drug dealers or users.

“The committee is expected to work as a team and hold regular discussions to achieve its goals, which will lead to a saner and safer society.

“This diverse membership is expected to bring different perspectives and expertise to the table, ensuring effective implementation of the committee’s objectives,” she said

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee includes  various stakeholders, including the NDLEA and government ministries.

Others are traditional rulers, youth associations, pharmaceutical bodies, NGOs/CSOs, and faith-based organisations.

The NDLEA Commander in Kogi, , Umar Yahuza, co-chairs the committee with the governor’s Wife, Hajia Sefinat Ododo.

Yahuza, on behalf of the committee, assured the government of their commitment to work round the clock to meet the objectives of the NDCMP in the state.

He thanked the governor for bringing the committee to life, demonstrating the administration’s determination to tackle the menace of illicit drugs.
