(News Investigators)There are strong indications that the ranks of South-West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in their bid for the national chairmanship position may have been broken.

The south west zone had coveted the national chairmanship position zoned to the south, insisting that it was their turn to take that position in the main opposition party.

However, fresh facts emerging from the zone reveals plan to compromise their bid for the national chairmanship position as some of the aspirants are being lobbied to settle for vice-chairmanship slot.

The latest move is believed to have been hatched by some serving state governors spearheaded by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Notwithstanding the fact that the PDP has zoned the presidency to the north and the national chairmanship to the south, the Southwest is the only zone yet to produce National Chairman in the history of the party and its strategic influence in the nations polity could not be wished away.

“But some are not seeing it that way mainly for their inordinate ambition, a source told News Investigators. Adding: “Those being fingered as potential vice chairman are Mr. Jimmy Agbaje and Prof. Taoheed Adedoja to clear way for the emergence of National Chairman from Southsouth. There are speculations that a lot of money and inducements is going into this.

Some bigwigs in the party are all out to ensure the seat goes to Southsouth with the radar on Uche Sekondus as the likely pick. Sekondus, according to reports, enjoys the support of Gov. Wike, a major financier of the party.

With the first meeting scheduled for Enugu unable to hold, another meeting has been slated for Port-Harcourt in Rivers State where the deal would be sealed.

This has however been met with strong disapproval from some leaders of the party who are concerned about the future of the PDP.

According to them, “those who are planning to step down in consideration for the post of vice chairman are merely pretenders who are contesting to negotiate and make money out of the whole exercise and are not in any way concerned with PDP’s victory in the coming elections.

Major stakeholders in the party are now working round the clock to checkmate these clandestine moves by making sure a credible candidate from the Southwest clinches the National Chairmanship post.
