WHY OBI RESIGNED FROM THE PDP -SOURCE

••• PDP HAS TAKEN A DECISION THAT CANDIDATE MUST COME FROM NORTH

Strong indications have emerged on why the frontline Presidential Aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Peter Obi resigned from the party.

Obi was running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 Presidential election.

A source close to the popular former Anambra State Governor said that he took the tough decision quit the PDP because the leadership of the PDP mounted so much pressure on him to accept as running mate to a northern candidate.

The source said that the PDP leaders held series of private meetings with Obi where they insisted that they want their candidate to come from the North.

The Network gathered that Obi and his team refused the PDP offer to step down his aspiration to accept as running mate to a candidate from the North.

Investigation revealed that Obi became embittered when the PDP prepared a document with stern conditions for him sign to accept the position of a running mate in 2023.

The source said that the PDP simply wanted Obi to ‘sign away his life’ but refused to disclose the content of the document.

The PDP decision put Obi on collision course with the South East regional position that spearheaded by Ohanaeze Ndigbo that no Igbo aspirant should contest as running mate.

The source added that Obi and those close to him felt the leadership of the PDP was hurling too much insult at him and his team by insisting that he should perish his Presidential ambition.

The Obi team was said to have reminded the PDP leaders that it was the position of the party to zone the Presidency to the South after the eight years of Buhari’s regime.

The Network gathered that Obi and his men were adamant as they were not convinced by the argument of the PDP that the President must come from the North in a total departure from the prevailing expectations from party members.

The source said that Obi was left with no better option than to bid the party goodbye. It was clear that the tide within the PDP was against him.

The source said, “Look, the insult was getting too much! What kind of people would push a man to a hard decision like that?

“The leaders of the PDP have been prevailing on Peter Obi to accept as running mate to a northern candidate.

“They have concluded that their candidate must come from the North.

“To deepen the insult they went and prepared a document for him to sign.

“In that situation, what would you expect him to do in that situation?

Meanwhile, investigation revealed that Obi is holding talks with the New Nigerian People’s Party.
