Strong indications have emerged on why President Goodluck Jonathan sacked his political adviser Ahmed Gulak. Newsinvestigators can authoritatively reveal that it was over the latter’s intrusion into the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Akwa Ibom state.

As earlier reported by Newsinvestigators, Gulak was accused of not only meddling in the internal politics of Akwa Ibom where Governor Godswill Akpabio holds sway, but was also supporting the oppositions against the Governor who was rumoured to have fallen out of favour with the presidency.

Sources said an angry Akpabio had consequently made a strong protest to Jonathan assuring him that not only will he deliver the state in 2015 but that any attempt to create division in the state at this time may spell doom for the party.

Last Thursday, the Governor fired two of his commissioners for their alleged role in the insurrection against him.

Gulak was said to have met with the commissioners while he was in Uyo for the Goodluck Campaign agenda where he met with some groups.

Announcing the sack of the two commissioners, Akpabio in a statement by his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Aniekan Umanah, in Uyo, said there was a minor reshuffle to reinvigorate the machinery of government and drive further the ‘’uncommon transformation’’ Programme of the state.

The commissioners, who were directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries, were Mr Bassey Akpan, Finance; and Mr Effiong Abia, who until his sack was in charge of Rural Development.

The two commissioners had earlier commenced plans to succeed Akpabio in 2015.

The statement also announced the removal of the chairmen of six state-owned parastatals and agencies.

Gulak’s sack was announced in a tweet by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Dr. Reuben Abati.

According to Abati, “President Goodluck Jonathan has terminated the appointment of his Special Adviser (Political), Alhaji Ahmed A. Gulak with immediate effect.”

“President Jonathan thanks Alhaji Gulak for his services to the present administration and wishes him success in his future endeavours, it said.”

The real reasons for Gulak’s sack is still unknown, sources said it may not be unconnected with his recent political misadventure in Akwa Ibom state where he went to set up a structure for Goodluck Jonathan 2015 Campaign without recourse to Governor Godswill Akpabio.

Akpabio loyalists including the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP had condemned the move.

Gulak, until his sack was also the Director of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation for the 2015 election.

Earlier, he had served as speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly.

He was enmeshed in several controversies especially, his provocative comments against opposition and perceived enemy of the Jonathan administration.
