VOTE-BUYING: POLICE INTERCEPT $500,000 FROM REP IN RIVERS STATE

Less than twenty four hours to the Presidential election on Saturday February 25, the Rivers State Police Command in the wee hours of Friday, arrested a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, for allegedly being in possession of $500,000.

Igwe is a lawmaker representing Port Harcourt 2 Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Igwe is a card carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and a supporter of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He was arrested along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the State capital.

The police also intercepted a list containing the beneficiaries of the money, for distribution in the 23 local government areas of the State as well as security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

 The Rivers State Police Command, Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest adding that “A statement on it would be released soon.
