Update On Security Briefing: Senate Defers Voting On Emergency Rule

After about four hours of closed session with Service Chiefs, National Security Adviser and Minister of Defence, Senate today deferred consideration of President Goodluck Jonathan for extension of emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa till next week Tuesday.

However, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said the senate would do everything necessary to secure the affected three states.

Apart from Chief of Defence Staff who was absent at the meeting,  other Service Chiefs came in company of National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau.

Senate in a resolution after meeting said the debate was stood down to enable them  consult with various stakeholders in order to ensure that everybody buys into the extension emergency rule.

According to Ekweremadu, postponement was necessary  to enable the senate to carry out further. Consultations with necessary stakeholders to ensure that  everyone buys into the request.
