News Investigators/ The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria (PAN), a non-governmental organisation, has urged the Federal Government to urgently review Nigeria’s foreign policy to reflect current global realities.
The President of PAN, Jasper Emenike, made the call during the organisation’s second National Conference and 10th anniversary celebration, held on Thursday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference had as its theme, “Exemplary Leadership for Sustainable Democracy, Good Governance and Development in Nigeria.”
Amb. Emenike stated that Nigeria’s foreign policy should be reviewed to strengthen the country’s global standing, enhance economic diplomacy, and reposition the nation as a leading voice in regional and international affairs.
He noted that the recent designation of Nigeria by the United States as a country of particular concern was a sensitive diplomatic issue that had generated public outcry.
Amb. Emenike further observed that the development highlighted the delay in appointing diplomatic envoys to missions abroad and stressed that such lapses had weakened Nigeria’s diplomatic relations globally.
“We call for accelerated action towards a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s foreign policy to strengthen diplomatic engagements.
“While listening to citizens’ concerns, presidential handlers should recognise the sensitivity of this matter and avoid escalating it through political utterances.
“Considering its diplomatic nature and global economic implications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should coordinate diplomatic engagements and responses,” he said.
Amb. Emenike expressed confidence that the security rejig would ensure the deployment of maximum military capacity to curb banditry, terrorism, and extremism nationwide.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold steps to restructuring Nigeria’s security architecture and congratulated newly appointed security chiefs, pledging PAN’s full support.
He added that in the past ten years, PAN had established operational structures in all 36 states, the FCT, and over 25 international chapters.
He explained that PAN, founded in 2015, was built on five pillars of attitudinal change, exemplary leadership, patriotism, good governance, and the rule of law.
He, however, appealed for more partnerships, collaborations, and financial support from well-meaning Nigerians at home and abroad to sustain its developmental programmes.
The Special Guest of Honour, Amb. Tunji Asaolu, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council, United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD), congratulated PAN on a decade of impactful service.
Asaolu noted that true leadership was not about power but about serving with honesty, vision, and courage to uphold justice for the common good
He urged all leaders within and beyond PAN to embrace transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability as vital foundations of responsible and effective public service.
In his goodwill message, Chief Dr Chekwas Okorie, founder of APGA and Convener, Igbo Agenda Dialogue, commended PAN’s vision to inspire and empower Nigerians.
He called on Nigerians to recommit to exemplary leadership and shared responsibility, stressing that unity would build a democratic, equitable, and prosperous nation.
