Two Feared Killed as Rival Cult Groups Clash In Awka

By Kamsi Anayo

No fewer than two suspected cultists were on Friday feared killed in Awka, the Anambra state capital, during a clash between rival cult groups.

An eyewitness, Mr Ike Odi, said the attack took place at about 11am at Ukwuoji bus stop, along Zik’s Avenue.

He said that the hoodlums numbering about five invaded the area in a car with tinted glasses, and shot the victims.

The gun m-wielding cultists were said to have released gunshot indiscriminately into the air, before escaping.

“We were all there when it happened, and immediately gunshots were released into the air, everyone scampered for safety, and the cultists used the opportunity to escape,” Odi said.

Although, the State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the killings, he admitted that there was shooting in the area.

He said: “There is no information like that before me. Police operatives have intensified patrols within Awka following the sound of gunshot at Ukwuoji bus stop in Awka.

“Information gathered at the scene from the eyewitnesses shows it is cult related,” he said.
