Turaki’s call for Trump’s intervention in Nigeria unethical, reflective of PDP’s state of moral bankruptcy – TDF

News Investigators/ ‎The Democratic Front (TDF) has described as unfortunate, the recent call by the factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, on the US President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s democratic process.

‎In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group rejected the call as unethical.

‎It said: “We vehemently reject the condemnable call by the PDP factional National Chairman, because it is morally irresponsible, and politically unethical for any Nigerian citizen to call for the intervention of a foreign power in the country’s internal affairs.

‎”For us, the chaotic situation in the PDP simply reveals the depth of moral and leadership deficiency in the party, on account of the greed, mischief, and undemocratic tendencies of many of its leaders, who are desperate to grab power in Nigeria at all costs.

‎”It is however common knowledge that notable leaders of the opposition in Nigeria have long adopted anti- democratic antics, including circulating rumours of unfounded military coups, sponsoring and participating in protests for IPOB, as well as promoting spurious claims of genocide to mislead foreign governments, in a bid to advance their political goals of displacing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

‎”The action of Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, who led a section of undemocratic members of the PDP into a party convention in Ibadan, in defiance of a court order, did not come to us as a surprise. He is reputed for consistently disrespecting constituted political authorities.

‎”We are aware that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is in a deep crisis as a result of its failure to adhere to simple democratic rules and principles.

‎”The political rancour in the party, which has lingered through the last ten years, since the party lost control of the federal government, requires the deft management of internal conflict resolution mechanism as enshrined in its Constitution, not the mischievous call for the intervention of a foreign nation or agent.

‎”The blatant refusal therefore, by Tanimu Turaki and his colleagues in the PDP to follow due democratic process in resolving the dispute in the party, makes his call for Trump’s intervention, irresponsible, mischievous, and an affront to the sovereignty of Nigeria.

‎”In our opinion, the call was reminiscent of PDP’s long-standing history of political brigandage. The party’s grip on power between 1999 and 2015 recorded flagrant disobedience of the constitutional process and abuse of the nation’s democratic system in all ramifications.”

‎The group called on Nigerians to ignore Turaki’s mischievous request for Trump’s intervention in Nigeria, as the tirade of a morally bankrupt group of politicians.
