Tribunal Sacks Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State

•••Declares Gawuna of APC Winner After  Deducting Invalid Votes

The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the March 18 election.

Yusuf, who contested on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The APC Governorship candidate in the election, Nasir Gawuna, and his APC had congratulated Yusuf but the APC  proceeded to court.

However, the three-man panel on Wednesday ordered withdrawal of certificate of return which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf.

It also directed that a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.

The court during the proceedings deducted 165,663 votes from Gov Yusuf’s total invalid votes, stating that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and therefore were invalid.

The judgment was delivered through zoom.

The judges did not come to the venue of the Tribunal sitting to deliver their judgment.

About 50 people only were allowed to enter the tribunal venue.

Journalists were not allowed to cover the judgment.

Reports had it that reporters of BBC and Daily Trust were seriously maltreated by security agencies.

It was learnt that tension has enveloped the entire Knao state at the time of filing this report with traders hurriedly locking up their stores.
