Tribunal Confirms Tambuwal Winner Of Sokoto South Senatorial District

•••Dismisses APC Petition

The three-man panel of the National Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Sokoto, and led by Justice Denis Madi Echesi, on Wednesday, dismissed the petition of the All Progressive Congress and its candidate, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, the former governor of the state, Aminu Tambuwal.

The Tribunal held that the petitioner failed to prove its case beyond all reasonable doubts and further awarded a cost of N200,000, to the respondents, Tambuwal and PDP.

The tribunal affirmed that the former governor of the state, Aminu Tambuwal, was duly elected senator, representing Sokoto South Senatorial District.

Barrister Chris Kelechi, one of the lawyers of the APC, and Ibrahim Danbaba, while reacting to the Tribunal judgement, said his team would study the judgement very well before going for an appeal.

“The Tribunal has promised to hand over the copy of the judgement tomorrow, after which we will sit to check very well before going for appeal,” he said.

Meanwhile, Suleiman Usman (SAN), who represented Senator Tambuwal, hailed the judgement.

The Tribunal gave a lengthy judgement in which the cases were evaluated and the tribunal in its ruling, held that the evidence of the petitioners was not reliable and contradictory, including the messages that were tendered.

The Tribunal, therefore confirmed the election of Tambuwal as the duly elected Senator representing the Sokoto South senatorial district.
