News Investigators/ Thousands followers of Qadiriyya Islamic sect from across the globe converged on Kano for the 76th ‘Maukibi’ or ‘Waliyyai’ festival.
‘Maukibi’ is a religious festival and procession conducted by members of Qadiriyya Islamic sect annually in Kano.
The ceremony begins from Qadiriyya House in Kabara, with the thousands of followers on procession up to the Wali Maigiginya cemetery along Katsina road, Kano.
The leader of Qadiriyya in West Africa, Shiekh Qaribullahi Nasiru-Kabara, led the procession to the venue where important dignitaries would speak to the gathering.
The Police Command in Kano, assured adequate security arrangements to ensure a hitch free exercise.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, said given the expected influx of visitors from within and outside the country, the command urges participants to maintain the state’s reputation of hospitality and lawfulness.
“In this regard, the Command sternly warns against immoral behaviors such as wielding dangerous weapons, dealing in illicit drugs and other deviant behaviors that do not align with the state’s cultural heritage,” he warned.
