The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp has uncovered a deadly plan by the Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa to attack the home state of the President, Katsina.
The Deputy Comptroller General, Operations of the NSCDC, DD Mungadi made the troubling revelation in a memo dated July 25, and sent to all state commands in the country.
He said that the terrorists were assembling high caliber weapons such as anti-aircraft weapons, machine guns and rocket propelled grenade in a planned attack on Katsina.
The memo also stated that two groups of bandits were plotting attacks in the North West, North Central, South West and the Federal Capital territory, Abuja.
The memo directed all states command to ensure adequate deployment to places of worship, schools, and critical national assets to forestall the evil plot.’
The memo reads in full, “We have received credible intelligence that Boko-Haram and the ISWAP terrorist groups have mobilised fighters and high calibre weapons particularly Rocket-propelled Grenade launchers, Anti-Aircraft guns, and General Purpose Machine Guns which they intend to deploy for the offensive in Katsina State.
“In another development, two separate bandits groups are plotting coordinated attacks on North-West, North Central and South West (Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kogi, FCT and Lagos respectively).
“Consequently, the Commandant General has directed you to scale up deployment in all strategic places including Schools, Worship Centres, and Critical National Assets in your respective states, to checkmate any possible threats by these criminal elements. Please treat as urgent.”
The security operatives averted a planned terrorists attack on the Nigeria Law School, Bwari following a timely intelligence on impending attack by the lethal group.
Two officers of the Guards Brigade lieutenant Ibrahim Suleiman and Captain Samuel Attah, both indigenes of Kogi State, lost their lives in the ambush.
The Guards Brigade is the elite force of the Nigerian Army which secures the President, Vice President, their families and indeed the Federal Capital Territory.
