TERRORISM: BUHARI MEETS NORTHERN GOVS, SECURITY CHIEFS

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, held a close door meeting with some northern governors and security chiefs in Aso Rock,

No formal statement has been issued on the agenda and resolutions of the top security meeting focusing on the raging insecurity in the North.

The Network gathered that the meeting which held in the Executive CouncilChambers of the Presidential Villa has the security situation in the North dominating deliberations.

A source at the meeting stated that specific governors were invited to the meeting because of the security situation in their states.

“It was all about finding a sustainable solution to the security situation in those northern states. If you observed, the problems facing all the states represented are almost uniform: banditry and terrorism. So it’s something like a central situation room thing”, the source said.

The governors who attended the meeting were Simon Lalong of Plateau, Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Sani Bello of Niger, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Umara Zulum of Borno, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara.

The Governor of Katsina, Aminu Bello Masari and his and Yobe, counterpart Mai Mala Buni, were absent.

The Minister of Defense, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd); the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor; the service chiefs and heads of other security agencies were present at the meeting.

Also, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao were in attendance.

The list of top security chiefs at the meeting include the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman; the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
