Sugar Council Supports 256 Sugarcane Farmers In Adamawa

The National Sugar Development Council has pledged support for 256 sugar cane out grower farmers in Adamawa State.

Malam Sule Tambaya the North East Liaison officer of the council made this known in Yola on Sunday.

He said the Council has registered and supported 256 sugar cane out grower farmers in the state.

Tambaya said that the development follow the successful implementation of the national sugar development programme.

“National Sugar Development Council has successfully registered and supported 256 sugar cane out grower farmers in Adamawa.

” The aim of the project is to boost national sugar production.” Tambaya said.

The liaison officer confirmed that presently, 90 per cent of sugar consumed in Nigeria was imported.

He further explained that under the scheme , the out growers were targeted to provide 40 per cent of total sugar cane demand to Savannah Sugar factory.

Tambaya said the council was making all possible to boost sugar production in the country.

Mr. Godwin Sule, the state out growers manager expressed satisfaction over the federal government sugar scheme.

Sule, a staff of Savannah sugar of. Dangote Group of Company said the company also support the farmers with improved variety cane seedlings.

” Savannah sugar in its part supported the sugarcane out growers with seedlings, prepared lands , fertilizers and other agricultural inputs at subsidized rate.

” While the farmers paid back the incentive with row sugar cane.” Sule said.

Sule observed that due to smooth implantation of the scheme , thousands of farmers were eager to be registered into the programme.
