The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo, has condemned the growing idolatry in the state.
The Governor lamented that idolatry has become a major threat to Christianity in the state.
He stressed on the need for Christians in the state to bond together to defeat the practice.
The governor, in company of his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, made the call while speaking at the yearly prayer rally organised by Anglican Communion, Province of the Niger in Awka on Sunday.
“The fastest growing religion is idolatry. Christianity is facing a major threat which is idolatry. And we must bond together to defeat it”. Soludo revealed.”
Soludo also called on Christians to unite as one body in Christ Jesus.
Soludo expressed appreciation to the entire Anglican Communion for the great initiative to organize prayers yearly in the state.
He emphasised that Anambra remains a Christian society, which he said will never be taken for granted.
The governor also told the gathering that beyond prayers, there is the need for the church to work together with government to defeat insecurity and other anti social vices plaguing the state.
He emphasised that the church, the people and the society have roles to play and should all be involved in the war against insecurity

Aside insecurity, Soludo also assured the gathering that the government was working round the clock to improve the living conditions of the people.
He said that since 2017 the hoodlums took over the state and they have 16 camps, particularly at Orsumoghu community in Ihiala LGA of the state.
“We are deploying everything. We are defeating them by God’s grace, while calling on the people to expose those living among them to completely wipe the ills out in the state.
He stated that he would be heading straight to some gully erosion sites in Oko community in Orumba North Local Government Area of the the state to assess the level encroachments and the devastating effects on the land.
He described Anambra state as the erosion capital of the world, which has necessitated his government determined resolve to arrest.
Speaking earlier on the prayer theme, “Watch and Pray”, His Grace, the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Diocese of Awka, said the people are living in perilous times and there is need to watch and pray.
“Our gathering is unto God. We have come to seek the face of God on issues around the church, our families and the nation.
“We are in a critical time, a time when men ought to pray and never faint. The situation of our country is beyond human control. It is only in God that safety, hope and salvation is assured,”
“The present situations and circumstances in our nation have increased anxiety and worry in the hearts of the people.
“The failed economy, raging agitations, many cases of kidnap and killings that has infiltrated the minds of people with fear and feeling of insecurity cwoth other heart failing moments he said.
He emphasised the need for the nation’s leaders to be closer to God for divine direction, stressing that human nature cannot please God.
“Our leaders are watching with their hands not with their hearts,” the Bishop further stated.
