Shun Sentiments That Undermine National Unity – Mutfwang Tells Corps Members

News Investigators/ Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to shun sentiments that undermine Nigeria’s unity.

Mr Mutfwang said this on Friday, at the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 batch “C” corps members orientation exercise in Plateau.

The governor, who was represented by his commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Musa Ashoms, said that corps members were not just participants in the one-year service programme.

According to him, they are ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration and catalysts for social and economic progress.

He urged them to position themselves as positive and dependable agents of transformation in the nation.

Mr Mutfwang advised them to shun all forms of misinformation, divisive narratives and sentiments that would undermine collective unity.

The governor further stated that the NYSC scheme remained a vital tool for fostering national unity and development.

Mr Mutfwang tasked the newly sworn-in corps members to pay special attention to all the course content during the orientation exercise and adhere to the by-laws of the scheme.

The governor called on them to inculcate the spirit of discipline, patriotism, self-reliance and leadership skills which would equip them during and beyond the service year.

“Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism and selfless service and perform your duties with diligence.

“Foster integration; learn at least one of more than fifty indigenous languages spoken on the Plateau,” he urged.

Mutfwang reassured the corps members that his administration, in collaboration with security agencies, was working tirelessly to sustain the peace and stability that had been restored in the state.

Earlier, Mr Jonathan Yavala, Plateau NYSC Coordinator, urged the newly sworn corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, particularly the skills acquisition programme, as it would prepare them for the rigours of the service year ahead and beyond.

Yavala commended the Plateau Government for its unflinching support towards the NYSC scheme.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,150 corps members had been registered.
