Each Senator’s Wardrobe Allowance Is N506, 600 Per Annum, Says Saraki

President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki has said that the wardrobe allowance budgeted for each senator is N506, 600 and not N21.5 million as reported in the media.

Saraki said the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) would review allowances of political office holders in view of the current financial challenges facing the nation.

The Senate President, in apparent reaction to media publications on allowance of senators and members of the House of Representatives, which were considered too high, said the chairman of the commission was in his office today to clarify the matter.

“Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation & fiscal Commission was in my office to clarify wardrobe allowance. Amount is N506,600 per Sen,” Saraki tweeted.

He said that the stated amount is what a senator is entitled to as wardrobe allowance yearly.

Explaining that, “Fixing of renumeration of political office holders is sole responsibility of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation & Fiscal Commission

“With the current challenges we are facing as a nation, RMFAC will be reviewing allowances to reflect the current economic trend.

“I have just being informed that RMFAC will be publishing details of allowances on their website.

He assured that the details would be publish soonest, adding that the senate would put pressure on the commission to ensure that is done without delay.
