•••AS FEAR OF TERRORISTS ENGULF ABUJA
The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Wednesday at it’s plenary ordered President Mohammadu Buhari to rearrange the security apparatus in the country and fix the security back to normal or face impeachment.
Irked by the security threats in the country, including the Federal Capital of the country, the Senate rose to issue six weeks ultimatum to the President.
According to the Senate, the President should as a matter of urgency address then national security threats in the country.
They asked him to wake up from his slumber and take ownership of the security as the nation’s Commander- in- Chief of the Armed Forces and properly address worsening insecurity or face immediate impeachment.
The Senate Minority leader, Philip Aduda, who led other Senators to staged a walkout protest against the insecurity in the country, disçlosed this to the newsmen.
Rising from the Senate Chambers, the Senators moved straight to address the newsmen as they chanted ‘All we are saying Buhari must go’ songs.
The senate Minority leader while addressing newsmen said, they went into a closed-door session, where they deliberated on various security issues.
“We also took into cognizance that the senate at various fora, at various times and various meetings recommended to Government, and various steps have been suggested aimed at curbing this issue of insecurity but we have realised that even Abuja is no more safe
“So at the closed session we agreed that we will give the President an ultimatum failing which we will move to give an impeachment notice
“This was our agreement at the executive session but when we came out the Senate, the President refused to inform the public of our resolution
“Since that didn’t happen, we have come here in protest to let Nigerians Know that we are with them
“That we are worried so we staged a walkout from the chambers to register that the security in Nigeria is out of hand and urgent steps need to be taken so that the issues are addressed immediately
“We have come here to say that we have passed so many resolutions on security, we have given all the support and all the enabling appropriation that they need.” Aduda stated.
Several Senators who joined the protest include senator Muhammed Bulkachuwa, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Buhari’s Senator, Ahmmad Babba Kaita and others.
According to the protesting Senators, six weeks may be too long concerning the security challenges facing the nation but had to start from somewhere.
The Network gathered that they had tried to raise the motion to that effect on the Senate floor but were frustrated by Senate President Ahmed Lawan.
Recall that on Tuesday when the issue of security threat to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was made by the terrorists, the Senate didn’t react to the threats and the recent threats by terrorists to abduct President Muhammadu Buhari, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and lawmakers in the country may not be unconnected to the Senate ultimatum to the President.
