News Investigators/ Drones have attacked the oil-rich region of Tyumen in western Siberia, Russian authorities said on Tuesday, with conflicting reports about the reported damage.
Three drones were discovered and neutralized on the premises of a company in the regional capital, Tyumen, the regional administration announced.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, it said.
Tyumen is more than 2,000 kilometres from the front line, in the Asian part of Russia.
If the drones were launched from Ukraine, it would mark the first time Kiev’s long-range drones have crossed the Ural Mountains.
“The swift intervention of emergency services prevented the drones from detonating,” a statement, shared on Telegram, said.
It added that there were no injuries or damage.
However, the Ukrainian Telegram channel Exile nova reported that a refinery had been hit with an accompanying photo.
It only showed minor damage to a protective wall in front of the actual oil tanks.
It could not be independently verified if the photo is from Tyumen.
In the summer, Ukraine had already attacked strategic bombers in Irkutsk, eastern Siberia, using drones.
However, those drones were smuggled into the country on lorries and launched near the military airfield.
