Rivers Crisis Deepens as 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike defect to APC

The political crisis in Rivers State between Governor Simi Fubara and the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, deepened on Monday as 27 out of the 32 members of the State House of Assembly defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The defecting lawmakers cited the division within the state chapter of People’s Democratic Party as the reason for their decision to dump their party.

The Network gathered that the lawmakers held plenary around 8am on Monday where the decision to defect to the APC was reached.

The lawmakers sat amidst tight security at the Assembly complex along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.

The defection of the lawmakers has heightened fear in the state that the Assembly might move to impeach Gov Fubara.
