News Investigators/ Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Usman Bello Kumo has urged members of his constituency to embrace all measures put in place by the government in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the state.

Just as he asked government at both state and federal levels to make available free mouth guard and hand sanitizers to the people.
Rep. Kumo who represents Akko federal constituency of Gombe state said tackling the coronavirus pandemic requires all the seriousness it deserves, urging governmenta at state and federal levels as well as corporate organizations to intervene in the provision of mouth guard and hand sanitizer as a matter of urgency.

This he said would help to contain the spread.

“Since it takes a period of 14 day for it to manifest in a carrier, it behoves on everyone to maintain the social distancing measure to avoid contacting the disease but such intervention by government and corporate bodies to make those items freely available to the public will go a long way,” the Chairman Committee on Police Affairs said in a statement Wednesday in Abuja.

The lawmaker applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the efforts so far taken, stating that the citizens have a greater role to play in ensuring the success of government efforts.

Rep. Kumo advised the people of Gombe to take the matter seriously saying it is a reality that the virus is already spreading in Nigeria.

He urged government to do more by creating some palliative measures like making available and distributing free hand sanitizers and mouth guard to help mitigate the spread and cushion the harsh effect of the stay at home order.

“We may not be able to do as much as the developed countries in terms of interventions given to the citizens but some support is certainly required especially for market women and low income earners,” he said.

“l call on the people of my constituency and Gombe people at large to stay safe knowing fully that it is easier to avoid contacting by enduring the measures put in place to contain the virus than to combat it since we do not have the cure,” he added.
