Primaries: Supporters Of APC Governorship Aspirants Back Ex-IGP Adamu

News Investigators/ Supporters of some All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Nasarawa State, who recently withdrew from the 2027 race, have declared support for a former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The supporters, numbering over 5,000, made their position known at a press conference on Wednesday in Lafia.

Abdulhaq Dauda, Coordinator, Think-tank Support Group for Dr Faisal Shuaib, the former Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said the decision followed consultations after their principal stepped down from the contest.

Mr Dauda explained that the group aligned with Adamu based on shared ideology and confidence in his leadership capacity.

“We have resolved to join this movement and support the former IGP because we believe he represents the kind of leadership our state needs,” he said.

He urged supporters to remain law-abiding, focused and united in the interest of the state’s development.

Also speaking, Mr Umar Abdullahi, Coordinator, the Coalition of Youths and Students for Dr Faisal Shuaib, said Adamu’s track record in public service informed their decision.

According to him, the former police chief’s contributions at both state and national levels demonstrate his capacity to govern effectively.

Abdullahi dismissed claims that aspirants needed endorsement from the incumbent governor to obtain nomination forms, describing such assertions as misleading.

He added that the coalition had collapsed its structure in support of Adamu and would mobilise voters across polling units.

“We are committed to ensuring a free, fair and credible process, and we believe in democratic principles,” he said.

Abdullahi expressed optimism that Adamu would emerge as the APC flag bearer and eventually win the 2027 governorship election.

In his remarks, Mr Abdulmumini Maidoki, Coordinator of the Ahmed Mohammed (Baraden Nasarawa) Support Group, the former Accountant-General of Nasarawa State said their principal’s withdrawal prompted them to seek a new direction.

Maidoki said the group chose to back Adamu, describing him as the most suitable candidate for the governorship position considering his experience and track record.

Also, Dahiru Ahmed, Coordinator, Wadada Volunteers Support group said that some of them were not comfortable with the “anointing” of their principal, Sen. Ahmed Wadada, as preferred aspirant by Gov. Abdullahi Sule.

According to him, the endorsement of their principal is contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act that allowed for direct primaries or consensus, hence their decision to switch allegiance insisting that due process be followed.

The supporters pledged to mobilise grassroots backing for the former IGP ahead of the party’s primaries.
