Fracas in National Assembly: PDP cautions NASS members.
Warns Amaechi against heating up the polity.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as embarrassing, the violence on Thursday by some lawmakers, which led to the closure of the National Assembly, even as it distanced itself and the Presidency from the development.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement said lawmakers “are responsible adults elected by their constituencies and wondered what would have happened if the law enforcement agencies were not there to maintain law and order”

The PDP described the incident as unfortunate and cautioned that the parliament, being the nucleus of democracy, its members should be above board as Nigerians expect the best of behaviour from them.

On the statement by Governor Rotimi Ameachi of Rivers state that the opposition would form a parallel government if the PDP wins the 2015 general election, the PDP said it was shocked and stunned by the statement especially coming from an elected person. It cautioned Governor Amaechi against unduly overheating the system and urged him to concentrate on his duties in his state.

Stating that Governor Amaechi was a democrat when he was in the PDP, the ruling party urged him not to allow the undemocratic attitude of the APC to becloud him.

“He is a different person from who he was when he was in PDP. When he was in PDP he was much more guarded in his statements. We urge him to desist from utterances capable of derailing our democracy”, the PDP stated.

The party however restated that it would continue to resist the provocations from the opposition and remain focused in its commitment in consolidating a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Nigeria.

Signed:

Olisa Metuh
National Publicity Secretary
