Police Averts Possible Religion Crisis In Kaduna State

By Tom Garba – What would have been bloody religious crisis was on Monday averted by security agency whose timely intervention stopped the build up between the Kuramas and Hausa settlers in Kaduna State.

District Head of Maigamo of Kurama in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mr Clement Ayuba confirmed to our correspondent that it took the intervention of the Nigerian Police to nip in the bud a possible religion crisis would have broke out between Kuramas and the Hausa settlers in Maigamo.

According to Ayuba, the whole thing started when two daughters of late Rev Ishaku Bulus accused Alhaji Iliya Tanimu, to stop parading himself as a lawyer and human right activist accusing him of using it to defraud innocent people.

The angry Illiya was said to have reported the matter to DSS who stormed Maigamo town from Kaduna to arrest the ladies.

Eyewitness account said the the district head had to intervene and assured them of that he would resolve the issue amicably.

“Unknown to him a magistrate Court in Ikara had earlier struck out the case for lack of merit which was reported by Alhaji Iliya.

He said that to his utmost shocked at about 10:15 a.m on Monday, some hired thugs (Yan Tauri) who came in a Golf Car, well armed, started beating people indiscriminately heading to the house of late Rev Bulus.

“When I discovered youths began to mobilise themselves as news began to spread out to nearby communities. I quickly alerted the police and the DPO of Saminaka responded on time. On reaching at the spot of the clash five young Kurama people were seriously injured and were rushed to the hospital “.Clement said

“If not because of Police, nobody would have known the consequences of Iliya’s act,” he added

No one knows Iliya’s whereabout but he is believed to left the town for fear of arrest.

“For a long time Iliya have been known to be an unexpected ardent criminal whose shady deals is known to  everyone in the town but defied police arrest,” he alleged.

At the time of writing this report, all efforts to get the DPO in Saminaka proved abortive as his number has been responding “switched off. “
