Police Assure Informants Of Protection In Niger, Says CP Elleman

News Investigators/ The Police in Niger has assured informants and residents of the state of the command’s resolve to protect the identities of individuals and groups who volunteer credible intelligence to aid its operations.

The Commissioner of Police, Niger Command, Adamu Elleman, gave the assurance while interacting with newsmen in Minna on Monday.

Mr Elleman said the Nigeria Police Force operates professionally and would continue to maintain the principle of secrecy regarding sources of information in order to achieve maximum results.

The police boss said he recently attended a workshop organised by the Force Headquarters on Informant and Information Management to further enhance his professional capacity in intelligence handling.

According to him, the recent reduction in criminal activities in Minna, the state capital, was largely due to credible information received from members of the public, as well as support from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Gov. Umar Bago, traditional rulers, and security patrols led by him.

“As a result of these deliberate efforts, many miscreants who were previously involved in thuggery, street fights and handset snatching have been arrested, prosecuted and jailed to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.

Elleman warned district and village heads against aiding or shielding miscreants, stressing that any traditional ruler found culpable will be prosecuted alongside criminal elements.

The police commissioner commended the Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim, for her support in the speedy dispensation of justice, and noted the robust synergy between the police and other sister security agencies in the state.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the welfare of officers and men of the command to boost morale and enhance effective service delivery.
