Plateau: Sen. Plang Loses APC Primary

News Investigators/ Sen. Diket Plang has failed to secure the ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to return to the National Assembly for the second time.

Plang is currently representing Plateau Central Senatorial District in the red chamber.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the senatorial district consist of Kanke, Pankshin, Kanam, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau.

The lawmaker lost the primaries of his party conducted across the five LGAs that make up his zone

Mr Sadat Garga, the Returning Officer for the district, announced the results of the polls on Tuesday in Pankshin.

He declared Mr David Barji as the winner of the APC senatorial primary.

Garga said that Barji scored 57,727 to defeat Plang, his closest opponent, who polled 1,423 votes.

“By the powers conferred on me as the returning officer, I hereby declare Mr David Barji as the winner of the APC primary for Plateau central senatorial district,”he said.

Garga explained that the primary was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The returning officer added that Barji defeated four other aspirants, including Mr Ephraim Usman, who scored 1,322 votes.

NAN reports that Usman is the immediate past Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Plateau.
