PDP’s Adeleke Defeats APC Candidate In Osun Senatorial Bye-Election

OSHOGBO/By Alaba Ajibade – The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ademola Adeleke has been declared winner of the Osun West Senatorial bye-election held on Saturday.

Adeleke polled 97,280 votes to defeat his main rival and All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Mudashiru Hussain who scored 66,115 in the election.

The Returning Officer Prof. Olaide Lawal who announced the result in Oshogbo, Osun State capital declared the PDP candidate winner with 31, 165 votes more than his APC rival.

Both Messrs. Adeleke and Hussein had commended the conduct of the election, saying it was peaceful and satisfactory.

Also, breakdown of the collated results shows that the APC candidate only won election in his local government, while Ademola Adeleke of the PDP won 9 out of the 10 local government areas where elections were held.

The defeat of the APC candidate, Hussain came to many as a surprise especially given the support it enjoys from the governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola and the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as well as federal support.
