News Investigators/ The Cross River chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the party is being reorganised and repositioned to take over the state in 2027.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state chairman of the party, Venatius Ikem, stated this during the inauguration of a 20-member congress committee in Calabar on Friday.
He said the party has taken cognizance of its mistakes in the 2023 general elections and working to avoid the same pitfalls in 2027.
Mr Ikem further said that the PDP will also take advantage of the mistakes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure victory in the next general elections.
He said that the party has total control of a senatorial district in the state and needs another district to claim victory.
“We need to focus our energy on what we are doing in our state, take advantage of the mistakes of APC, reposition our party, and transform it to victory.
“We have total control of northern senatorial district and will remain impenetrable. What we need is another senatorial district, and we are gone, “he said.
The state chairman also emphasised that despite challenges facing the party at the national level, it still boasts of very credible people in the state.
He emphasised that its challenges are superficial, and in due season, the challenges will go away.
The chairman stressed that the PDP at this time is a place for people who have the conviction and courage to serve the party.
He described the Congress committee headed by Prof Zana Akpagu as a galaxy of stars as it sends a message about the quality of people still in the Cross River PDP.
In his response, Akpagu said the committee accepts the responsibility and the import of the assignment.
“We wholeheartedly accept this responsibility. We know the import of this task, and we are not taking this assignment for granted, “he said.
