President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has said that the crisis plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is abating even as he called on the party leaders and supporters across the nation to work towards a permanent reconciliation.
Senator Mark, who disclosed this during a courtesy call on the Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Sule Lamido, as part of activities marking a One-Day official Visit to the state, also urged the stakeholders of the party to work together and ensure that the party survives its challenges.
According to him, “when the crisis in our party started, I called my brother and friend (Governor Lamido) and asked him if what I was hearing that he was leaving the party was true. He replied me that he is not a fool. He said how can I leave the house he built for somebody else. He spoke with courage.
“We cannot solve the problems of our party by running away from it. Governor Lamido is courageous and he speaks from his heart always. We must all work together to make sure that the PDP survives”.
Commending the zonal, states and local government executives of the North-west geo-political zone for ensuring the continued unity of the party, Senator Mark noted that “the PDP problem is winding to an end while the problems of the other party are beginning to emerge.
“It is our (PDP) turn to sit down, rest our back and begin to laugh now the same way they were laughing at us”.
Stressing that the Senate is united as one, the President of the Senate noted that “Senate is not partisan because we are not Senators of parties but Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He commended Governor Lamido for “truly providing noticeable democratic dividends for his people. Your democratic dividends are not songs that are being sang only on the pages of the newspapers. The change in Jigawa is commendable because it is noticeable.
“I also want to commend you for your approach towards the security of the state. In spite of the cries of insecurity in our nation, Jigawa state has remained intact without the problem of Boko Haram and this feat can only be achieved as a result of hardwork, honesty, trust and transparency.
“You have a clean heart and I urge you to keep up on your good works. I also urge all important citizens of this state, irrespective of the party differences, to join the governor and work together in the collective interests of the state.
Earlier, Governor Lamido in welcoming the President of the Senate, described him (Mark) as a nationalist who has taken up the responsibility of providing hope for Nigerians.
“Your visit to us made a profound statement on the unity of Nigeria. Your visit has also given us stability in the party. You are a beacon of hope for this country,” Governor Lamido further said.
Senator Mark later commissioned a number of projects including the new Deputy governor’s lodge, the state house of Assembly complex as well as the state ministry of urban and rural development among others.
