PDP Announces August 17 As New National Convention Date, As Modu-Sheriff Mets Makarfi

By Sadiq Umar – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced August 17 as a date for another National convention slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, even as it zoned its Chairmanship position to the southern part of the country.

The party announced the decisions at the expanded caucus meeting held at the Shehu Yaradua centre in Abuja Thursday.

The party has also named a committee to work out a new zoning arrangement for national offices with the consideration of the national chairman zoned to the South having approved presidency for the north.

A national reconciliation committee was also constituted to continue reconciliation efforts in the party. The committee is led by the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu.

Earlier, leaders of the warring PDP factions – Ali Modu-Sheriff and Ahmed Markarfi met behind closed door at the Wadata Abuja Headquarters of PDP, which has been under lock for almost two months, owing to the stalemate among the party.

Party leaders including all State Governors elected on the banner of the Nigerian were in attendance at the parley.
