(NEWS INVESTIGATORS) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the COVID-19 era offers opportunity for Nigeria and the United Kingdom to adopt innovative ways of addressing their challenges.

He gave the charge when he received a UK delegation, led by the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Helen Grant, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Their discussion centred on improving relations between the two nations across different sectors, especially in the post-Brexit period.

Osinbajo said: “I am really excited about the prospect of what the next few months and years hold for our two countries. I also share your optimism that this is probably the best opportunity for us to do a lot. And to do so in a manner that will make a great difference for our two countries.”
On her part, Grant said her visit was a deliberate effort by the UK government to deepen conversations with allies ahead of Brexit.

She said aside trade, both nations could strengthen ties in agriculture, health, technology, judiciary and other sectors, expressing her country’s interest in ensuring that Nigeria records positive result.

BESIDES, the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) has developed a test kit capable of running hundreds of test in an hour following the second wave of the disease.

It said the SARSCOV2 Detection Assay (SCODA) would address the low testing across the federation.

Speaking at the NIMR 2020 Retreat, a molecular virologist, with the institute, Joseph Ojonugwa Shaibu, explained that SCODA “is a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kit for detecting COVID-19.”

He said the innovation was informed by the high cost of examination by most kits occasioned by the high foreign exchange rate.

MEANWHILE, office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), yesterday, debunked the claim that Justice Tanko Muhammad had contacted the virus and was being treated abroad.

The denial was contained in a statement issued by Director of Press and Information, Supreme Court of Nigeria, Dr. Akande Festus.

It urged those “peddling the rumour to go a step further to confirm from their sources, and equally obtain the copy of whatever laboratory test result they are relying on.” CULLED GUADIAN.NG
