Palliative : Buni Distributes 50,000 Bags Of Grains To Vulnerable Persons

News Investigators/ Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has inaugurated the distribution of 50,000 bags of assorted grains as palliative to vulnerable persons in the state.

Speaking at the occasion in Damaturu on Monday, the governor noted that the gesture was part of the state’s food security drive.

“This is in line with the government’s vision and mission of food security and resilience building for efficient and effective recovery from natural disasters such as this year’s floods which claimed some lives and properties.

“Once again, l wish to register the condolences of the government and people of our dear state to the families and victims of the flood disaster.

“Government is conscious of challenges posed by calamities, and difficulties that usually accompany the farming circle between planting and harvesting seasons, when farmers have invested and exhausted their food stock, while the new crops are not ready for harvest,” he said.

According to him, each beneficiary will receive a bag of 50kg of any of the assorted grains, which include sorghum, millet and rice.

Mr Buni listed the beneficiaries to include 5,580 primary school teachers, 1,780 Primary Healthcare Centres workers, 2,400 persons with special needs and 1,200 Tsangaya Mallams.

Others include 2,000 junior cadre civil servants, 2,000 staff of tertiary institutions, 600 staff of Teaching and Specialist hospitals, and 25,500 vulnerable persons across the 17 local government areas.

The governor said that his administration would scale up investments in agriculture to ensure that the state did not only become food sufficient but contribute meaningfully to national food security.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for his projects and programmes that had made positive impact in the state.

Mr Buni also commended the state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for its proactive effort toward timely procurement of the grains.

The governor, however, charged those saddled with the responsibility of distributing the grains to ensure that only targeted individuals benefitted from the gesture.
