News Investigators/ The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named its deputy national chairman and former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi as its acting national chairman.

But in a deft political move, the party’s deputy national chairman, north, Lawal Shuabu has been drafted to resume same position as acting national chairman.

The decision to name Mr. Ajimobi by APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) followed the judgement of Court of Appeal which affirmed the suspension of its national chairman, Adam Oshiomhole.
A statement signed by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu early Wednesday said the “National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has received the news indicating the Appeal Court has upheld the suspension of the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an FCT High Court pending the determination of the substantive suit.

“Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman,” Mr. Issa-Onilu said.

“According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, there are indications that Mr. Shuabu, a former senator and deputy national chairman of APC for the north would be assuming the position since Mr. Ajimobi may not be able to perform as acting chairman.
The former governor of Oyo state is currently at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Lagos hospital, reportedly in a state of coma.

A source closed to the APC’s deputy national chairman, north, quoted the former senator as saying: “I will resume office as the Acting National Chairman as soon as I receive the judgement of the appeal court.

“Obaseki’s resignation will be rejected by my party. A sitting governor is an asset to our great party,” Mr. Shuabu was quoted as saying.

News Investigators could not independently verify the quote from Mr. Shuabu.
The latest move to draft in Mr. Shuabu, it was gathered, was orchestrated by a powerful bloc within the ruling party.

The move, it was further learnt, “is meant to checkmate the influence of party’s national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu” of whom both Mr. Oshiomhole and Mr. Ajimobi are believed to be proteges.
