ONE KILLED, OTHERS INJURED IN KOGI GAS EXPLOSION

One person has been killed and many sustaining various deep injuries in a major gas explosion that rocked Kabba in the western zone of Kogi State.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday and said the explosion took place at a major Beer Parlour joint, Lewu Junction Kabba, Headquarters of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

An eyewitness disclosed that the explosion caused panic in the communities as people took to their heels immidiately the gas exploded.

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the situation has been brought under control by the men of the Mobile Police Force, QRU, Regular Police and Military personnel who were dispatched to the area by the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Egbuka, on recieving a distress call.

The police statement added that one Aisha, was injured in the explosion and evacuated to the hospital with others but later died during treatment.

“The Commissioner of Police had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police Investigation to commence an investigation into the incident along with the personnel of the Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) to unravel the cause of the explosion.” The statement said.

“Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner, Egbuka, has tasked members of the public to go about their lawful businesses while stressing the need for all levels of commitment and synergy among other security agencies in ensuring the safety of lives and property.”
