Obi Speaks On Port Harcourt Convention, Says, I’m More Passionate About Building New Nigeria Than New Labour Party

News Investigators/ The Labour Party (LP) presidential candididate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi has explained his absence at the controversial national convention of the party that produced Julius Abure as its national chairman.

Mr. Obi said he shunned the party convention that was held in Port Harcourt because the party leadership under Mr. Abure failed to carry out wide consultation with stakeholders before embarking on the convention.

The former Anambra State governor made his position known on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday.

According to Mr. Obi, there is the need for the right thing to be done to salvage the party.

He added that he is more passionate about building a new Nigeria than building a new Labour Party.

LP spokesman, Yinusa Tanko while explaining further stated, “HE PO always stand for the right thing to be done……. Transparency, Accountability, and Inclucivity.

“We can’t exclude over 6 million people in a convention process. We can only build a party structure from the wards, LGAs, States and National for legitimacy.

The controversial party convention has become a subject of litigation with accusations and counter-accusations between Mr. Abure and the Lamidi Apapa factions.
