NUJ CONDEMNS THE KIDNAPPING OF THE GUARDIAN REPORTER IN BAYELSA

The Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has condemned in strong terms the abduction of Mr. Julius Osahon, the Bayelsa State Correspondent of the Guardian Newspaper.

The journalist was kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday, while on his way to Delta State from Yenagoa.

A statement released by the Council Chairman, Mr Samuel Numonengi and Secretary, Mr. Ogio Ipigansi, demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Julius Osahon, who is only discharging his responsibility as a journalist.

The Council stated that armed men suspected to be Kidnappers attacked the Sunny Eru Motors bus in which he was traveling from Yenagoa to Warri.

The bus was intercepted along the Patani axis of the East- West Road by the armed men before abducting the Guardian reporter, alongside others onboard the vehicle.

The statement enjoined the Inspector General of Police, security agencies in Delta and Bayelsa States to intensify action to rescue the said journalist and others kidnapped without delay.

“The Council pray to God for guidiance and protection of Julius Osahon and others as well as their quick release to enable them join their families and loved ones”, the statement.
