NSCDC Nabs 8 Suspected Streetlight Vandals In FCT

News Investigators/ The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has arrested eight persons for allegedly vandalising streetlights in the territory.

This is contained in a statement by FCT NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi, on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to Mrs Ojobi, the NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu while displaying the recovered exhibits, said that the arrest was a full scale assault against vandals in Abuja.

Mr Odumosu while giving a brief on the arrest said that four of the suspects were nabbed while vandalising solar panel poles at about 2:10 a.m around Idu layout in CITEC area of the FCT.

He said that the remaining four suspects aged between 16 and 25, were arrested along Bannex -Gishiri axis while trying to convey five already vandalised street light poles at midnight.

“Exhibits recovered included five vandalised gigantic street light poles, one vandalised solar panel pole and over 40 pieces of iron rods.

“Investigation is still ongoing and the suspects will be consequently charged to court accordingly,” Odumosu said.

He expressed displeasure at the level of destruction of public infrastructure by hoodlums who have infiltrated the territory to destroy the growing government infrastructure.

“We are not going to allow the efforts of the Minister of FCT in infrastructural development to be sabotaged by some good for nothing individuals working against the state.

“I will continue to warn you to relocate out of the FCT because we are not backing down until vandalism is brought to an end in the FCT,” he warned.

Mr Odumosu solicited the cooperation of FCT residents in the area of credible information and intelligence to help the Corps in its fight against vandalism and other related crimes.
