News Investigators/The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared total support for workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) over their ongoing indefinite strike action.
This is contained in a statement signed by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.
Mr Ajaero said that the decision followed consultations between NLC leadership and the Joint Unions Action Congress representing FCTA workers.
He described the strike as justified, citing alleged wage abuses, administrative impunity and violations of workers’ fundamental rights by FCTA management.
He alleged that five months promotion and award arrears owed to workers were illegally withheld, describing it as a denial of legitimate earnings.
He further accused the FCTA of failing to remit pension contributions and National Housing Fund deductions since May 2025.
According to the him, the alleged non-remittance threatened the welfare and future security of serving and retired workers.
The NLC president also condemned reported acts of intimidation, including restrictions on phone usage and alleged incarceration of workers.
He said such actions violated constitutional provisions and international labour conventions to which Nigeria was a signatory.
He directed all affiliate unions in the FCT to align fully and intensify the ongoing industrial action.
Mr Ajaero also ordered workers to mobilise en masse to the National Industrial Court on Jan. 26, for proceedings on the dispute.
He called for daily prayers and solidarity sessions across designated venues in the FCT to sustain morale and unity.
He warned that workers’ patience had been exhausted and urged FCTA authorities to urgently address the grievances.
He added that failure to resolve the issues would lead to further escalation until workers’ rights and dignity were restored.
