Nigeria’s Diversity Makes One-Party System Impossible – Okorie

News Investigators/ Chekwas Okorie, founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Convener of the Igbo Agenda Dialogue, says Nigeria is not tilting towards a one-party state and that there was no possibility of such happening.

Mr Okorie made this known during an interview with newsmen at the second National Conference and 10th anniversary celebration of the Progressives Ambassadors of Nigeria, held on Thursday in Abuja.

He dismissed growing concerns over mass defections to a single political party, describing the recent wave of defections as a normal democratic realignment.

He noted that such movements were part of Nigeria’s evolving political landscape and should not cause alarm.

“Very soon, there will be another wave of defections to other parties. These shifts are cyclical and driven by political interests and strategy.”

Mr Okorie explained that there would soon be another wave of defections to other parties, adding that these shifts were cyclical and driven by political interests and strategy.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s diversity made a one-party system impossible, stressing that the nation’s vast size, complex social fabric, and heterogeneous nature would always guarantee a multiparty democracy.

The APGA founder urged Nigerians to strengthen democratic values, promote political tolerance, and focus on governance rather than fear the illusion of a one-party state.
