News Investigators/ Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has felicitated with Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging leaders to see public office as trust and service.
Mr Mark, in a goodwill message to mark the nation’s 66th independence anniversary on Wednesday in Abuja, urged citizens and leaders to renew their commitments to national unity, peace, stability and development.
He described independence as a defining milestone in Nigeria’s history, saying that the attainment demonstrated the resilience, courage and enduring aspirations of Nigerians.
Mr Mark said the anniversary provided an opportunity for sober reflection on the nation’s journey and renewed determination to build a just and secure country.
According to him, Nigeria possesses enormous human and material resources capable of transforming the country into a prosperous and globally respected nation for future generations.
He, however, said the challenge was to harness the resources responsibly for the common good, while strengthening institutions, promoting inclusion, accountability and national cohesion.
Mr Mark acknowledged the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers, past leaders, armed forces, security agencies and millions of Nigerians who contributed to the country’s growth.
He called on political leaders to regard public office as a solemn trust and opportunity to serve, rather than merely a platform for personal enrichment.
The ADC national chairman urged Nigerians to remain committed to democratic values and peaceful coexistence, saying the country’s diversity should remain a source of strength.
He expressed optimism that visionary leadership, responsible citizenship, institutional reforms and renewed patriotism would enable Nigeria to overcome present difficulties and fulfil its enormous potential.
Mark congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the 66th independence anniversary and prayed for peace, stability, prosperity and greater unity across the country.
“As we celebrate Nigeria at 66, let us renew our faith in our country and recommit ourselves to building the Nigeria we desire and deserve,” he said.
