NEDC Hands Over 450-Capacity Multipurpose Hall To GSS Damaturu Alumni

News Investigators/ The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has constructed and handed over a 450-capacity multipurpose hall to Government Secondary School (GSS) Damaturu Old Students Association (DOSA).

Muhammed Alkali, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, inaugurated the facility on Saturday during the fourth national congress of DOSA with the theme “Unity and Perseverance in the Face of Challenges” in Damaturu.

Mr Alkali said the project was part of NEDC’s interventions to promote education and social development in the North-East, describing the hall as a legacy facility that could serve both educational and commercial purposes.

He said the hall, named after the school’s pioneer principal, Mr Wutama Bulama Samba, would provide space for examinations, conferences, and other activities, while also strengthening alumni engagement with the institution.

In his remarks, Alhaji Garba Iliya, DOSA National President, expressed fulfilment over the completion of the project, noting that the association had grown into a strong platform promoting unity, mentorship, and development initiatives.

“The congress is not just a reunion of classmates but a platform to consolidate our contributions and chart a sustainable path for the future of our alma mater,” Iliya said.

He urged members to sustain their commitment toward educational excellence, youth empowerment, and community service.

Also speaking, Hajiya Ladi Gali, Principal of GSS Damaturu, commended the alumni for their consistent support to the school, describing the multipurpose hall and other interventions as life-changing.

“Your dedication has not only benefitted our community but also provided opportunities for current students to thrive through mentorship and guidance. Your legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” Gali said.

She added that DOSA had earlier supported the school by equipping its library, installing solar lights, and providing other essential facilities.
