NDLEA Nabs Couple, Recovers Large Consignments Of Illicit Drugs In 7 States

News Investigators/ The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a couple in Takuti village, Lapai LGA in connection with 118 Kilo Grammes of suspected skunk.

The couple were arrested after the recovery of the substance in their kitchen, during a search by NDLEA personnel.

A statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA, Femi Babafemi on Sunday in Abuja, said that the suspects were arrested on April 9.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 42,290 tablets of Rohypnol; 82,700 mils of codeine syrup and 10,000 mils of Pentazocine injection have been recovered from a trailer loaded with vehicle spare parts.

Mr Babafemi said that the trailer was on its way from Nnewi in Anambra, when NDLEA officers on patrol at Njimtilo along Damaturu-Maiduguri road, Borno intercepted it.

“The owner of the consignment Eleje Ibeabuchi, 43, was arrested in a follow-up operation,” he said.

He also said that in Lagos, NDLEA operatives acting on credible intelligence on April 7, intercepted a Chisco Transport luxury bus marked AGU 442 XB going to Port Harcourt, along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.

Mr Babafemi said that a search of the vehicle, led to the recovery of 15 Kilo Grammes of suspected Scottish Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, concealed in one of the compartments of the bus.

“Two suspects were promptly arrested,” he said.

He added that in another interdiction operation in Lagos, NDLEA officers on Saturday, at the Mushin area intercepted a truck conveying assorted goods going to Onitsha in Anambra.

He said that a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 26,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup and the subsequent arrest of two suspects.

Similarly, a raid of the Tora Bora notorious drug joint in Abuja by NDLEA operatives on Saturday, led to the arrest of eight suspects.

“A combine total of 11.516 kilograms of suspected skunk were seized from the suspects.

“In Edo NDLEA operatives working on actionable intelligence on Saturday, intercepted two long trucks marked LUY 172 XC and LUY 281 XC along the Warrake road, Auchi.

“The trucks were loaded with bags of processed suspected skunk concealed among cartons of beer.

“One of the trucks was found to contain 3,900 Kilo Grammes of skunk, while the second had 3,345 Kilo Grammes bringing the total weight to 7,245 Kilo Grammes.

“Five suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure.

“The consignments were loaded at Sabongida-Ora in Owan West LGA and heading to Abuja when they were intercepted,” he said.

Mr Babafemi added that the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities equally continued across commands and formations of the agency all over the country in the past week.
