News Investigators/ The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has intercepted 184.5kg of cocaine from a courier company in Lagos and arrested two suspects.
NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to Marwa, the seizure is the largest cocaine consignment intercepted from a courier company in the agency’s history.
He said the agency recovered the consignment in collaboration with the management of the unnamed logistics company.
Marwa said one of the suspects, an employee of the courier company, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
He said NDLEA operatives arrested him while he was attempting to leave the country.
Marwa said the seizure further exposed Nigeria’s use as a transit hub for illicit drugs destined for foreign countries.
He warned drug barons, traffickers, financiers, distributors and dealers that the agency had intensified operations against their networks.
“Wherever you hide, whoever sponsors you and however sophisticated your network may be, the long arm of the law will reach you,” Marwa said.
He said the NDLEA would sustain its collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to disrupt illicit drug supply and distribution networks.
Marwa urged Nigerians to provide timely and credible information to help law enforcement agencies identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks.
He commended NDLEA officers for their diligence and professionalism in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
The NDLEA chairman said the agency would remain committed to preventing criminal organisations from using Nigeria as a transit route for illicit drugs.
