NDLEA ARRAIGNS ABBA KYARI, SIX OTHERS FOR DRUG RELATED OFFENCES 

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had arraigned suspended Deputy Commissioner of Policy, Abba Kyari and six others for drug related offences before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The former Head of the  Police Intelligence Response Team, is facing an eight-count charge of drug trafficking alongside six others in the case number  FHC/ABJ/57/2022.

DCP Kyari was arraigned with Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Sunday Ubua, Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirigba, Inspector John Nuhu, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe, and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

Umeibe and Ezenwanne were two drug traffickers that were arrested at the Enugu International Airport.

The NDLEA represented by a legal team headed by the Director,Prosecution and Legal Services, Mr. Joseph Sunday, 

 accused Kyari and the other police officers of conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in Cocaine worth 17.55 kilograms.

The agency also accused them of  tampering illegally with 21.25kg of cocaine.

Kyari and the police officers who were arraigned with him pleaded not guilty to the charges while the two drug traffickers pleaded guilty.

Mr Kanu Agabu, (SAN) Counsel to Kyari the pleaded with the court  to allow the accused to be in the custody of the NDLEA pending the determination of the motion for his bail.

The other defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022, are four members of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Sunday J. Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu.

Two other suspects arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, were also listed as defendants.

In the charge filed through a team of lawyers led by its Director,Prosecution and Legal Services, Mr. Joseph Sunday, NDLEA accused Kyari and the four other police officers of conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in Cocaine worth 17.55 kilograms.

They were also accused of tampering with 21.25kg of cocaine unlawfully.

Moments after Kyari was declared wanted by NDLEA on February 14, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced Kyari’s arrest.
