News Investigators/ The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is consulting stakeholders toward the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, on Tuesday, in Abuja.
According to Director, the Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have held meetings with the party’s National Leader and other leaders on the proposed campaign structure.
He said Obi and Kwankwaso had been given the opportunity to nominate key campaign officials, including the Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media and Finance Director.
Director said, the nominees would be selected in consultation with its leadership, adding that a comprehensive organogram for the campaign structure had been developed since August.
He said the structure had been made available to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input, while nominations had also been received from stakeholders across the country.
The national publicity secretary said the inauguration, earlier scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of the presidential candidate’s travel schedule.
He added that a proposed campaign timetable had also been developed, while arrangements were being concluded on funding and fundraising for the campaign.
Director said campaign funds would be managed by designated campaign officials and the National Treasurer in accordance with transparency and accountability requirements, including the party’s obligation to render accounts to INEC.
He urged its candidates and supporters at all levels to focus on the 2027 elections and avoid internal disagreements.
Director said its leadership had directed state and LGA chairmen to convene meetings with candidates and stakeholders to collate and harmonise lists of agents for the forthcoming elections.
He said two categories of agents would be identified, comprising those for National Assembly elections and those for governorship and State Assembly elections.
According to him, the lists would be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, before training.
He said the party directed that the exercise be completed and the final lists submitted within two weeks of the directive.
