Delegates at the ongoing National Conferences were shocked today during their sitting in Abuja, when His Royal Highness Edmud Dakorou, told the Conference that operators of illegal refineries in the country are his boys.

The incidences of illegal refinery have been partly blamed for environmental pollution and oil bunkering in the Niger Delta, resulting in huge loss in oil revenue to the federal government.

Dakorou, who is a traditional ruler from Bayelsa was clarifying his opposition to the proposal by the Conference’s Committee on Science and Technology which recommended the harnessing of illegal refineries for better performance.

Dakorou said the nays voted correctly because technology being used by these local refineries is too crude. “Although most of the boys who operate the illegal refineries are his boys,” he said.

The proposal on illegal refineries  almost divide the Conference as some delegates insisted the Conference needs to harness the potential of these illegal refineries so doing increase our local refining capacity.

But, some delegates argued that there is no need to harness the illegal refineries in the country.

Shedding light on it, Dakorou said the nays voted correctly because technology being used by these local refineries is too crude.

Meanwhile, the National Conference delegates has rejected  proposal by the Conference Committee on Science and Technology to harness the potentials being used by illegal refineries in Nigeria.

The Conference also rejected the committee’s proposals to harness the production of decoder during its consideration of the report to the Committee which was concluded on Monday.
